I went out today and tried to log some sonar data with my new lowrance unit, Elite4 HDI. I put the memory card in a selected "log sonar" but after about 20 mins i would get the message "less than 10 minutes left on card"

I tried various cards 2gb cards and a brand new 8gb class 10 card but still kept on getting the same message, can anyone help with this problem how do i get round it?

Are you sure you were logging to the card and not the internal memory?

I think this model logs direct to card. How much space do you have available on the card ? It should tell you logging time available when you start logging ? Do you have a huge custom raster map on the same card by any chance ?

I tried various card including a new 8gb card that had nothing on it but i still got the "less than 10 mins recording" message appearing after about 20 mins of logging, my old unit logged straight to the card i was expecting the Elite 4 to do the same

All Elite-models log directly to the card, so you don't have to worry about that. But all Elite HDI has a bug in their initial software, that caused the errormessage saying your card is full when it is not even close. Update your software and all should be well. :)

When downloading the new software from Lowrance.com, remember that you need to unzipp the file before putting it on your memorycard.

I have extracted the files and put them on a 2gb card but they dont seem to have updated my unit.
I have put the card in the unit and then turned it on,left it for 20 mins but the software version just stays the same??

Any ideas?

thanks...james

"The files"? It should be one file only, ending with .upd.
The put in the card and turn it on, is right. When booting the Elite checks the card and should do the update automatically. On my Elite 5, I had to do a hard reset to get it to do the update so you might want to try that. Do the hard reset, turn off, Insert card and start the unit. If you have any waypoints or routes on the unit that you want to save, back them up to your memorycard before the hard reset, since the reset will delete all of them.

Here are the name of the files that i got from the lowrance site

2412_6.ldr LDR File
TweetyMonoMS_v180t VLC Media file

Also the unit i am having the problem with is an Mark4 HDI if that makes a difference, it seems to be the same download to fix the Elite4 and Mark4 units from the lowrance site

Hi jamesk,

I got that message on my elite 7 all the time, but just ignored it.... It still recorded well after 10 mins (although I seem to recall it makes a new file (can't remember for definite sorry - winter here, so haven't surveyed for a while)!

Have you just tried ignoring the message and carrying on? I'm pretty sure you'll still record all the data!
