I have been using waypoints to mark fish holding structure (rockpiles, boulders, weeds, lumber etc) on my lake. This has worked fine but I have run into waypoint limitations on some of my devices. Can you add functionality to RM to use symbols, that would ultimately show on my AT5 map, to mark these items instead?

Yes, it's possible and we are looking to add an easier way to do this from RM.
At the moment you can export your waypoint set as a Shapefile and run this through the IMC - this should create a map with default icons for waypoints. If you want to edit the shapefile you can edit the ICON attribute to change the image. I must admit I haven't tried this recently, so I need to refresh my memory.
I think in principle you could just generate your waypoint layer and then include that AT5 file on your card along with any other maps, and it should show on top.

Great info Matt!
I have been looking for an easy way to add POI to our maps. It seems that no mather what symbol I use in RM, it shows as a circle in Insight Planner. Any way to fix this with just RM and IMC?

This is what I did -> As Matt said, export your waypoint set as a shapefile. Edit the resulting "filename".dbf file, I used MS Excel. Open IMC, view->icon documentation->icon documentation window lists available icons and icon names. Select the icon that you want and do a search and replace in excel to change to the desired icon name. Save and build as normal.

Yes Matt you can do this -> "I think in principle you could just generate your waypoint layer and then include that AT5 file on your card along with any other maps, and it should show on top. "

Is there any chance of adding functionality to RM to allow the user to draw objects (lines, circles etc) and have them show up on finished maps?

Excel did not work for me, I could not save the edited file as dbf again. But GTK DBF Editor was both free and easy to use. Starting to get somewhere here:

Why so complicated?

The best free solution is QGIS. You not only can change the attribute value, you also can edit much more details and you can use the SQL request mode for feature selection.

I`m sure we can say a lot of good things about QGIS my friend, but intuitive it is not. ;)
