What is your problem? We discuss about attributes changing in a ready shape from RM, single column "ICON". In this case you only need the field calculator in QGIS

Load the file
right click on the file name >>>.open attribute table

workflow for all symbols in the column:
- STRG+C for copy icon name from the IMC library, paste into the field calculator
- Important: set the pasted name in single quotation marks (only if this is a string)

workflow for selected symbols in the column:

Close each workflow by clicking the pin buttom and save

Hello Matt,

Any news on this type of feature? will it possibly be included in RM 2 ?

In my initial post on this subject two years ago (Adding rock chart object),
you wrote you wanted to add ICON support, and since then there have been some similar requests. It would surely be a welcome addition to RM, making it a more complete chart production tool. So what is the status on this topic?

Cheers

Hi Mats,
The current plan is to add POINT layer support, but we won't be able to display the IMC icons within ReefMaster. The ICON field will be user-editable, so you will be able to specify whatever you like for export to the IMC.

Sounds good to me Matt :-)
That would at least reduce the need for users to use external tools and different workarounds.

Thanks for the update.

This has been discussed before, but here is how I mark rockpiles, man made objects, etc.

I have a Reefmaster map that only contains Custom Paths. In this map I use images created from my Sidescan Mosaics and trace around the edges of the objects. I use different colours for different things. In the example image the red items are "rocks" although they may be artificial. The thicker red lines represent a "taller" object. In this map the thin blue lines are obvious transitions between hard and soft areas. Taller reefs are marked as a thicker blue line.

The map is written as a Shapefile and included with the RM generated map shapefiles for processing through the IMC. Another way is to process the Custom Path map seperately and include the generated files on the SD card in your plotter. This is useful if you use maps with Shaded Relief.

Thanks for that illustration Meggs,

I haven't used the mosaics module that much yet unfortunately, so I have not considered this option before, but it sure sounds like a good idea, which I will try.

Until now, I have manually made waypoints of all over- and underwater objects and then made manual chart files, as discussed in the forum before. But the problem with this philosophy is cluttering of the chart, and also that the chart plotter for some reason is having trouble processing so much data at a time. I have a couple of thousands underwater rocks etc. and even the HDS12 Gen3 is getting extreme lag sometimes. It has actually triggered the watchdog some times and rebooted!

It is of course not necessary to show every single underwater rock with an individual icon, but I would at least like to be able to differ between larger or smaller concentrations of rocks and also show large boulders individually. And of course all dangerous rocks individually.

I am all ears to good solutions to present this data in the best way.
