What is the best way to test an exported map. There is snow on my boat cover and I thought maybe in can be done without chiseling off the ice.

I always prefer to test on a real unit, although I believe many test using the Navico HomePort application - I cannot vouch for this.
The best solution in my opinion (especially over a long winter) is to get a 12v power supply and a spare power supply lead for your unit and bring the unit inside.

Matt, Homeport is Garmin, Insight Planner is Navico. ;)

If I change something, like colours, Atlas etc I always test on a "real" unit. I use my portable kit for this.

It`s the same rig I use for icefishing, or when in boats without proper electronics. I have different RAM-mounts on the box so I can use different models on it. In the photo above I have Elite 4 HDI and Elite 5 HDI on it, but I sometimes use the HDS-models I have in my boat instead. The good thing about testing on Elite HDI, is that if it works there, it will work on HDS as well. (While colours that work well on HDS might not work well on Elite HDI.)

If I only re-generated a map, ie with more data etc, then I use Insight Planner for the test. But IP does have its shortcomings.

I know, I just could not help myself. Having the chance to correct you, instead of the other way around, was just to much for a weak soul. :D
