Hello
I would like to know if it is possible to use areal datas (aquatic vegetation meadows for example) with Reef Master in order to obtain the same cartographic productions than Insight Genesis (please find attached examples of maps from Insight Genesis).
Thanks for your answer.

Ok, thanks Matt. Do you know if it will be an Additional Module like Volumes and Areas?

It will be part of the Bottom Composition module.

is vegetation allready integrated in the bottom composition module?

Greetings Matt and friends

Matt I am just about to begin a series of field trials with the new Humminbird Mega Imaging unit. This year I am focused on kelp bed mapping and seagrass. I would love to do the WHOLE job in ReefMaster once the full capability to adjust sensitivity of sonar return in vegetation mapping etc. Matt I am happy to supply different types of data files for you if this helps or test trial versions of your work etc. I will watch this thread to see what new miracles you are cooking up.

All the best
Vince

Thanks Vince - more data files are always useful, so please share anything you think might be useful for testing to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

New development has been a little slower than hoped this year for a range of reasons, so vegetation is not expected now until next year. We are working on it!

Bump- any idea when the vegetation mapping will be incorporated? Just working with a trial version and loving it, but vegetation mapping is key to my use.

Hi Matt

Just checking in here. I am still very keen on integration of vegetation mapping in Reefmaster. I have collected some data on shallow seagrass beds and kelp beds with the new Humminbird Mega Imaging sounder. I haven't been impressed with what the Autochart algorithm can produce. It useful on flat terrain I think in quite shallow water (less that 20m) but results in rugged terrain and sloping reefs has been mainly a puzzle to interpret. My point is that I can imagine you could do a better job and integration with ReefMaster would be a very big plus. I can send some data files but I think before I do that we should be quite specific on what depths contours etc that you would want for development work that you are doing as it seems that this greatly affects what is possible. Also to consider is the wide variation in vegetation types and densities etc that people are working with. I will support you with data files for this work so just shout out the needs please. Little note: I am finding the down-imaging display impressive for detailing kelp cover. I have been able to estimate height of macro- algae kelp canopy and even distinguish between some of the species present. There is potential to measure density but I haven't worked on that yet. Obviously in this algorithm we are looking at a track of data behind the boat as opposed to a swath so the use is limited, but that said the image produced is very very good. (see above photo)

This is definitely still on the agenda, but things have been a little delayed recently - apologies. Currently we are working on automated bottom detection along with XTF file support, and the accurate bottom detection in particular is going to be a requirement for effective vegetation mapping. I can't give a current estimate as to when this might be finished but once we start making decent progress it would be very helpful to get a range of interesting test files to work with.

This sounds very good... i am waiting for the automated bottom detection!!!
