While continuing to learn about the sonar viewer,I noticed that the sonar viewer button is disabled until I put the sd card with the tracks from my HDS Gen 2 unit into the computer drive slot. Is this correct or have I not imported my files correctly? I would have thought that I should be able to double click on any file in my track list that was recorded correctly, and be able to view it in the sonar viewer.

ReefMaster reads and indexes tracks when you "import" them, and saves position and depth information to the workspace database. It does not store the sonar imagery in the workspace file - this would result in huge workspace files. Instead, sonar imagery is read directly from the original sonar file, which is why the sonar files must be present in their original locations when using the sonar viewer or sidescan mosaic.
Ideally you would copy over your sonar files from your SD card and store then somewhere on your hard drive. Not only will this result in better read performance (depending on what kind of card reader you have, and how it is connected to your PC), but it will ensure that files are available in their original import location when you need them (if you rely on an SD card, then the drive letter could change between insertions, for example).

Very good Matt. I see now. This software would not be worth it without you and the others helping us lay persons. Thanks again. You are so helpfull. I would like to say I use music software and it takes a lot of time to get proficient with it. With out the you-tube videos I would be lost.Having said that, I hope you will make some tutorials for the general users soon. I personally like the personal and spoken videos without all the music support in the background.
