OK. I've completed one of my projects. Well, complete as far as the work space for the particular lake I've been working on is done. Next step, turning that into a map I can put on and SD card and use when I'm out on the boat.

This got me thinking and looking ahead trying to guess how things will work and coming up with some questions....
  • Do I need one SD card per map?
  • Can I put multiple maps on one card? If so, how do I scroll through what is on the card to choose a lake map?
  • I assume that my map, 'over rides' the Lowrance map, if so, do I still see all my saved way points (aka.. my "secret spots") but on the new map as well?
  • Does any one have a phone pic of one of their maps on their sounder that they can post here so I can get a look at what the results will be like?

Thanks

Your questions have sligthly different answers depending on what unit you use your maps on. I'm assuming you use Lowrance HDS.

You can put several maps on one SD-card. Put them in separate folders, and name the folders after each lake. Make sure you only use normal english letters when naming the folders.

Waypoints (and AIS and radar-overlay) works like a charm no mather what map you use.

How the map looks on your HDS depends A LOT on your settings in Reefmaster. Ie contour-intervals, colours used etc. It might look like the screenshots here:

Yes, an Lowrance HDS 7 gen2.

Several maps and folders? Good news! Way points etc., work like a charm? Good news again!

Depends on the settings? Understood and I have 1 foot contours and 'plain' colors - Dark blue deep to light colors the shallower you go. (Didn't want all kinds of fancy bright colors. The map would look like an old 60's hippy poster under a black light!)

Finally your screenshots were perfect! Thanks Team Colibri!

Here's a few shaded relief images on an HDS10 gen1, from our ReefMaster webpage:

The diagonal line you see in the last image is a gas pipeline!

Great pic's Matt and thanks. They look just as good as on the work space desk top. Can't wait to get this 1st lake of mine converted and the other lakes I need finished!

One of things I like most about your program, is that once I've done all the recordings, seeing the finished map allows you to find so many little "nuggets" that you didn't know were there and or give you a corrected few of the places you already knew of, or thought you knew.

For instance, I mapped one spot that I'd been fishing for years. Nothing special, just an old creek channel and my perception of it was pretty much spot on. When I saw the new map however, I saw that after a brief shallow area that I thought was the end of this original ' secret spot' the creek channel opened up again and continued. I can't wait to fish it more thoroughly next spring! I never would have realized it was there with out ReefMaster!

I tried creating multiple folders and outputting separate areas in each folder, in my HDS I am not getting the option to select which map. Instead it displays all maps from both folders.

Any tips?

Sounds to me like you are the one who needs to explain. I Would love for all my maps to show at once, and not have to choose folders. :) Which HDS (and Gen), and what softwareversion are you running?

Just outputting a predefined Map at5 with color shaded reflect from latest version of reefmaster

- HDS9 Gen 3
- Latest software

Two folders with two different areas in each folder, I cannot select which area I want to show like you can with IG, they both automatically show.

That is a weird one... I don't have a Gen 3 to test on so I have no idea what's going on there.

In this case, you only can choose between Navionics and Lowrance in the unit. No other options, not even if you would have a dozen folders.
What you need is 'Atlas Description' in the IMC. But this is only possible if you export to SHP file and then launch the IMC to convert SHP to AT5 with a mapname in the 'Atlas Description'.
