Just reading thru the "How To".pdf (Thank you, for this) on "Way Points" and while I haven't fully gotten it yet, this question came to mind. With my Lowrance, I occasionally switch between the Lowrance insight map and my Navonics map. My saved way points automatically appear on the screen regardless of which map I use. When I finally get one of my Reef Master maps done, will this be the case as well or will I have to somehow save and then transfer my way points from the Lowrance to the Reef Master map I'm creating?

Thanks

Yes, they will show on the RM-map as well. Waypoints are stored in the internal memory of your unit, and are shown regardless of map.

To transfer the waypoints from your Lowrance to RM, go to "Waypoints, trails...." in "Files" and copy it in USR3 from the internal memory to your memorycard. You can then import that USR3-file into RM. Waypointsymbols are Lowrance-copyright and will not be transferred.

I often use waypoints to mark rocks and obstacles I do not want to run my boat over. I then use those waypoints in RM and GE to create precise polygons for import to RM so the rocks are shown as land in RM even though they are sub-surface. Keeps me from running into them. ;)

Here the arrows point to pilars under a bridge. The polygons used to make this, where drawn in GE based on waypoints placed around the pilars.

On a sidenote, AIS works with RM as well.

Just to add to what Team Colibri said, waypoints are completely separate from maps. Waypoints can be created in RM or imported from your Lowrance unit in either GPX or USRv3 format (not USR version 4). You can create, view and edit waypoints in RM and then export to an SD card so that you can view them on your Lowrance. Waypoints will be displayed regardless of what map type you are viewing on the unit.
