That's interesting - all of our tests with SD card readers have been fine, although performance is generally somewhat slower than using a standard hard disk (or, even better, an SSD).
Straight tracks do give the best results, but the image is warped to take account of turns. Results on turns are much better if you have recorded your track with heading information, otherwise we have to use the course to determine the direction of the sonar. Course and heading can be quite different, particularly during tight turns, as the boat "slides" round the corner.
