Just downloaded the trial version of Sonar Viewer on a 64bit Windows 8.1 machine. The program seemed to install ok and opens to the main start screen, but when I tried to open a Lowrance .sl2 file the program crashes just before it finishes loading the side scan data. I've tried a number of different files.

Unfortunately Windows doesn't give me any more information.

Any ideas?

Hi Mark,
Tough to say as the error is not very informative.
Are you running on a virtual machine?

The first thing to check is your hardware graphics support, which you can do via the built-in utility dxdiag:

Start the task manager (right-click in the task-bar and select Task Manager).

Select Run new task from the File menu:

Type dxdiag, followed by OK:

Click Save All Information, choose a location for the generated text file and then - if you want - please send this text file to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Also take a look under the Display headers to see what "Feature Levels" your system can support.

It's not impossible that there is an issue with your sl2 files, but I think it is unlikely - but if you want to share one so that we can take a look then please zip one up, upload to a file sharing service such as Google Drive and forward the download link to our support email.

Thank you Matt for the quick reply. My graphics card is quite old and doesn't support the latest features built into Sonar Viewer.

It looks like I'm getting to the point where I may need to replace the PC, rather than upgrade the components.

By the way, for anyone else wondering, My graphics card only supports features up to level 10 and Sonar Viewer requires at least 10.1

Regards
