Hi all. First time here and first time user of ReefMaster.

I'm trying to get my head around the program. I'm not as young and sharp as I used to be! Anyway, I have several sections of the lake I'm working on done, (I think) but I can't seem to find where I can save my progress for the next time I work on it. (Had enough of a learning curve today and now my head hurts!) How do I do it?

Ok. I was able to open it this morning and have the map show what I'd been working on. Can't figure out what I was doing wrong yesterday! Quite the learning curve though and there are a lot of things I'm not getting yet. Its complicated for an old guy!

I'll keep trying while I have the free trial going before I make a decision on whether or not to stay with it. I do like the idea of being able to do it my self, but that little light bulb above my head hasn't gone off yet.

Meanwhile, I'd say its a great program, especially for folks who like to fiddle around, but if you just want to generate a map based on recordings and then drop it on an SD card and go fishing, then it's a bit to much.

ReefMaster saves everything you do as you go along - so you need to explicitly save your work. The map project itself will need to regenerate when you restart ReefMaster and load your workspace, but all of the settings will remain.

There is a bit of a learning curve, but to some extent that is the price of having extra flexibility. Once you get the hang of the mapping workflow (import track, add to project, regenerate) then it is fast and simple.

While I like the program, I wish it had a better, step by step for dummies set of instructions. (for guys like me) And I understand the "extra flexibility" aspect, but it sure would be nice to just have a program with only a few basic tools like setting contour levels, hard/soft bottoms, and then be able to feed the info in one end and have it come out the other. "Bang, zoom, head to the lake!"

I know them is fight'n word's for those who like to fiddle, but there is a "parade" going on right now with programs like Insight, the one from Navico, and one for Humminbird too (I think) that do that and are selling pretty well. I wouldn't want to see Reefmaster miss out on all the fun ($) by not offering something similar, along with the standard "extra flexibility" version of course! Thanks again.

Have you tried using matts start to finish mapping tutorial? I found it very useful when I first got reefmaster, easy to follow and produced some great results after a short time. It does take a little bit of time to get used to all the plethora of other functionitality in rm, but that, in my view, is a great selling point of the software - you can do a lot more than the other mapping software packages out there!

To produce a simple map which you can put on an Sd card shouldn't be too tricky - again, I would follow matts tutorial and it shouldn't take very long. Once you've done it a few times, I guarantee you'll want to start 'fiddling' like the rest of us to see what else can be created!

It also has a great and friendly forum - there are a lot of people on it who will quickly help you with any problems.
