First let me say I am happy happy happy to have found this software. I switched from Garmin to Hummingbird to take advantage of ipilot link and was dismayed at the lack of editing tools Hummingbird has compared to Garmin. Hummingbird PC is so limited. I use tracks to to outline grasslines and drop offs and had too many of them to fit in the H unit. Problem solved by combining them into one segmented track via Reefmaster. Worth the purchased alone. I bought the Lite version and have browsed this forum and see mention of tools that allow you to create/add to existing/draw new tracks but I don't see this ability in the Lite version. Am I missing something? I can do it in Google earth/HomePort then export and add to a project but do not see where it is done inside the software. Also if I need the full version is there an upgrade path? Thanks
To add I created a user map with all my combined tracks and see the pencil tool but when I click on it it doesn't do anything...I am wondering if this is a Macbook running windows using Parallels issue with how the track pad works. I am going to try a mouse in windows Edit, not the problem...it is as though the pencil is greyed out and doesn't highlight when I mouse over it. |

Hi Randy,
To add a line in a user map you need to add a custom path (or polygon). For HB, you may as well stick to paths as both paths and polygons are treated the same way when exporting to HB (i.e. you can't have a fill colour). To add a custom path:
You can also import a custom path into a UM by using the Import path button. To be honest, the path editing in RM is a little "rudimentary" (and will be improved in time), so you might be better off creating your paths in Google Earth, saving in KMZ format and adding to a UM via the Import path option. Note that the pencil tool is only enabled when an editable (custom) path or polygon is selected. When you create a new custom path or polygon, it is selected once it has been created and you can select the pencil tool. If you need to edit it in the future, click the path you want to edit either in the map view (mouse in select mode) or in the custom path list (in the edit pane). Edit to add: For your use, you are probably fine with the LITE. However, if you do want to upgrade to the PRO just send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Thanks, did the trick. For some reason a very few of my old Garmin tracks depicting grass lines carried over with too few tracks to be meaningful. I can trace over them with your tool and see them as a line now on the unit instead of tiny points spread out. My water (South Texas Bays) is mostly too shallow for Side Imaging but we have a few channels I am going to give a shot at mapping so I may take you up on the Pro Version.
