Hello my name is Scott Iam a new user and have been doing some mapping on one of our lakes here in New Zealand
I have started driving around recording the data needed which is going well.
Also I have had a friend of mine who is a surveyor digitise a paper cart for me of the same lake and give me the data as .csv file which is not going so well as seen in the screen shots we are not sure why there are these sections missing does any one have any ideas.

Thanks Scott

Hi Scott,
This is almost certainly to do with the format or projection of the CSV data your friend has digitised. You need to find out what those are, and make sure the CSV import is set up appropriately during import.
If you want to send your CSV file to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. we can take a look.

Hi Matt
Ill get that to you, this is what he said.
Hi Scott
i have found time to complete a digitisation of the lake rotoiti contour map. the souce data is captured in terms of NZ Map Grid but has been exported as lat, long, depth. the shoreline has depths set to -1 whereas other depths are shown as positive numbers.

attached are two files. one is a kml file which should be useful for creating a shoreline file in dr depth. the other is a csv formated file containing the lat, long and depth data. See if you have any joy loading this into dr depth. when i try i get bands of missing data and i am not sure why. i can reimport this file into my survey software and it comes back in just the same as it went out.

the kml file will load into google earth so you should be able to strip out the shoreline data and export it as a separate kml file which dr depth will read.

let me know how you get on.

Hi Scott,
We need to find out what coordinate system the digitised data has been exported in. The default for CSV import into RM is WGS84, but RM can be configured to import most common systems. It might also be useful to see a comparison image of the source data, so that we can determine whether data is missing or has been wrongly projected.
