TOPIC: Reverse left and right side scans?

Reverse left and right side scans? 11 years 9 months ago #4332

So my friend installed the side scan probe pointing forward on his boat when I lent him my sonar so he can map his lake... As a result, the left and the right scans are on the wrong side when displayed in RM.

Is it possible to switch them somehow in RM? Is it worth implementing this feature? Maybe not. Who's installing his probe facing forward (besides my friend)?

Thanks,

Marco

A lot of people do because you get a larger bend radius on the cord if it is up against the transom. I do for a slightly different reason, because mine is underneath the hull and the cable runs up the transom. Check here

For obvious reasons you'd want to set this right in the HDS. Chalk this one up to experience. On the positive side you can still view the log and get an idea of whats where plus the depth data will still all be good to use.

Hi Marco,
This is pencilled in for a future release, along with a few other configuration options for sidescan transducer setup, including separate offsets for p/s channels and better support for towfish offsets.

Hello.
In your program has a very significant drawback: there is no way to swap the left and right channels in the structure. Because of this, she crashes. Explain in the screen. I'll start with the program DrDepth, where it is working properly.
On the 1st and 2nd screenshot see window with the same Log file. Should particularly look at the waypoint. Differences in that in the first case, a point on the map displayed on the right place and in the second - no. You can also make sure that in the first case, the mosaic structure displayed correctly: Lower Beach - above water. Have fallen into the water the trees. Also clearly visible shoreline. In the second case - absolutely wrong picture: the mirror. On the screen you can see the application settings window: ticked «Flip L / R». That's it and that is not in your program.
But, if this option is enabled in the device to record a sonogram, such a log, Reefmaster not displayed. When importing such a log program gives several (usually three) similar warnings (screenshot 3), then the program window is displayed (screenshot 4). If the option switches the display mode of the structure, we can see only the border of the structure. In this case, if the mode «Sonar» we see that we do not have "right" and "left" side channels, only DownScan (screenshot 5). And if you start to zoom in the map, then at some zooms Reefmaster necessarily crash (screenshot 6).
Outcome: The presence of such an option be sure, because without this it is impossible to use the program and build a map of the structure. Well, in the final event - it will eliminate an emergency stop of the program in such situations.
Thank U.
P.S. I have installed the latest version (28 trial).
P.S.1. I used google translator :)

Lots of changes are coming to the sidescan mosaic functions, including an option to swap the sides - although at the moment this is not really a pressing concern as very few users do this.
Although the results of running with a reversed transducer would not be usable at the moment, ReefMaster shouldn't crash. It would be useful to take a look at your file so that we can reproduce the problem - if you would like to, please share the file and send a link to This email address is being protected from spambots. I sent the link, and I am sure that you have a program crash.
On the issue of setting the transducer in Russia is common. This avoids interference on one side of the transducer from the motor.
Thanks

What makes you think that flipping the ducer will have anything to do with interference from your engine?

I think he means they can mount it under the transom rather then sticking out behind it. Thus avoiding the outboard impeding the sidescan beam. ?

I'm not sure, mine is reversed and flipped in the HDS which then comes out correctly in RM with no further adjustment required.

Look at the picture: in this position transducer beams overlap the left side of the engine. Naturally, in this case, the structure of the image sensor from the left will be terrible. in this case, many fishermen in this case, deploy transducer 180 degrees. some fishermen to buy more second sensor LSS and set on the other side of the motor and use both sensors.
