I set my Sidescan (StructureScan) range manually. Do not use Auto.

Thanks for that Trevor, great stuff....#9 oh how I looked for a way to chop .sl2 files.

#8 took me a very long time to resolve as I had no good location on the transom. My SS transducer is now mounted to the underside of the hull and is a dream.

Also SS transducer don't like being banged around. Another difficult thing with the length on some transoms!

Would it be possible to get a picture from your ss mount?

I cannot get an ideal place, because the motor shaft kills one side.

The best solution is to use two LSS-2 transducers so they get a clear side scan view.
I've tried trimming up the outboard but all the disturbed water and maybe part of the hull kills the usable range on that side that is obscured by the hull and outboard when you try to get good coverage in shallow waters.

I have ordered a second LSS-2 transducer together with an Y-cable, this solutions has been approved by Navico.

Note the Y-cabel hasn't all pins connected on the two output connectors!
Pins for downscan is only connected to the starbord LSS-2 transducers downscan element
Pins for starbord side scan is only connected to starbord LSS-2 transducers right element.
Pins for port side scan is only connected to port LSS-2 transducers left element.

The separation between them can temporarly be handled by importing each sonar file twice and use different location for the transducer in port/starboard direction and disable the side that isn't correct when making mosaic. The separation between them isn't that much but reducing the errors is always good!

valid point, but I'd respectfully argue the "best solution" point. What we are trying to acheive is a set of criteria so that normal everyday people who go out and buy a box and expect it to work can get the results they expected.

There are plenty of exotic workarounds, but finding solutions that don't involve extra expense or technical knowhow, but just require a little planning and forethought is what this is all about !
Lets keep it simple folks.......

You could remove the point 9 since that is handled very nice in the mosaic module.

The mosaic module does not reduce the size of sl2 files though unfortunately, and does not save in sl2 format. If you need to reduce the size of an sl2 file, or remove bad information before processing (in whatever application, IG for example) then the only way to do it is to rewrite the sl2.

I tried moving them further out but ended up damaging both transducers. Now I have them tucked up in front of the outboard. The result it fantastic provided the outboard is not in reverse!

Hubert both of my transducers are now mounted in front of the outboard leg as it was the only location I could avoid interference.
