This question is likely related more to the IMC than reefmaster, so I hope it is ok that I ask it here. Has anyone had issues with isobath colors displaying incorrectly on HDS Gen 1 and Gen 2 sonars? Its not all colours, but enough to make the maps look poor and not intuitive to the eye. Most of my testing has been done on an HDS 7 Gen2 Touch, and everything displays as expected on that unit.

Fixes or work-arounds?

I noticed on my Elite 4 HDI when using the 14 colour AT5 built in palete (the one that goes from red to blue), some of the reds and yellow don't show right.

This is in vector colour mode

Between HDS Gen1, Gen2 and Touch there is no difference. Maps should work the same way - except at5 Version 13 is not runing on Gen1. For version 13 a firmware 3.x has to be installed.

Elite HDIs run with a different firmware and are not able to display the full color range, that HDS could display. If you want to run your map on Elite HDI, set Reefmaster to the Indigo settings and then create a color scheme. That prevents you from using wrong colors.

Hubert, that is what I thought based on reading the IMC documentation. I am using Atlas version 12, which should work on HDS Gen 1, HDS Gen 2, and HDS Touch. All of the units have been upgraded to most recent firmware. I have also tried Atlas version 10....isobaths (some colours only) do not display correctly on the Gen 1 and Gen 2 units with either Atlas 12 or 10.

I have attached the color palette that that I am using, all of the issues seem to be with the red to green section.

I just returned by brother's Sonars (the Gen 1 and Gen 2), so I can't take screenshots right now....but several colours (225, 231, and a couple others) do not display as they show on the screen here, or on my HDS Touch. Weird.

How different are the colours Craig? If you take a screen shot on the unit and look at this on your computer, do the colours still look different to how they are in RM? I know that colours do appear slightly differently on some units, but usually they are fairly close - and a screen shot will appear identical on a computer. In this case I guess its just the screen, but it sounds like you are describing something a bit more than this. If you can take a screen shot and post that up, along with the palette you used, that would be good.

On your screenshot the first palette is RGB - do not use any RGB for creating vector maps, only AT5 will work faultless.

Matt, the colours seemed to be fairly close....almost faded. The problematic ones (reds and oranges) looked like yellow (#23). I tried to reproduce the "issue" this with 3 different Gen2's I had access to, comparing to my Touch this evening...they basically looked identical. Now I'm wondering if it is simply related to sunlight readability of the screens varying. Will try it again with the bright sun....trying to convince myself I'm not crazy!

Thanks Hubert, I have only been using the 2nd palette for shapefile exports, but a good reminder.

Sometimes the view angle makes a lot of difference to distinguish between color nuances on HDS and HDS Touch screens.

I think it might be just that some unit screens are very bright. I have also noticed certain colour shades seem a lot lighter on the unit than they do on a computer screen, yet if you take a snapshot on the unit and view that image on the computer then the colours look exactly as they did in RM.
It's something to bear in mind when editing maps in RM - if you know a certain shade appears lighter on the unit, then perhaps choose a shade darker to compensate?

My own experience from different display panels in my companys production is that it may differ quite a lot between individuals, especially when it comes to brightness. And this occurs on high quality displays from leading brands, and are still considered to be within specs.

I just bought an extra HDS 7 Gen 2 touch and I will compare it to my older HDS 10 Gen 2 when I have installed it.
