Is there a way to create maps with different detail levels (High, Medium, and Low on Lowrance HDS Touch units)?
My Insight Genesis maps will change based on this setting, but not my RM maps.

What a Kind of objects You want differenciate - lines and/or areas? I see two ways:

1. changes with different zoom levels

Yes for each element is it possible (also for points, outside from RM). Use a different L_LIMIT and U_LIMIT setting. In RM You will only find the standard values 0 and 19.

The values of attribute columns L_Limit and U_LIMIT You can see and change in a free GIS application as qGIS. Find self the best settings, possible better as in Insight Genesis.

2. real settings low ... high

Another way is to use the chart categories (is catchier, but much more options). i think this is, what You actually want: attribute columns MAJ_CAT and MIN_CAT.

I use U_limit and L_Limit,

Just have your detailed polygons visible in the lower number levels, then generalised polys in the medium levels, then simplified polys in the high number levels.

Foo,

As noted, it is possible to create maps that show different features at different zoom levels. At the moment, the only feature for which this is applied (in maps exported directly from RM) is minor contours, which have a U_LIMIT value of 6. This means that they only show at higher zoom levels - you will see major contours, shorelines and isobaths (filled depth areas) at all zoom levels below 19.

It's definitely an area we can expand on so if you've got some ideas please do make some suggestions.

Matt
