I am trying to get a Juniper GNS3S GPS to act as the GPS for tracking my location track during some bathymetric mapping of a local reservoir in the Live Data mode of Reefmaster. I would be using the GPS data for the position and the sonar sonde for the depth. This would allow the sonar sonde and GPS to be closely related and help in creating a more accurate bathymetric map. While my fish finder, an Elite FS9, has a decent GPS, we are looking for higher accuracy. However, I am running into issues with getting Reefmaster to actually recognize and use the GPS for location. The com port and baud rate all look fine, and Reefmaster acknowledges that there is a device on that com port but it doesn't appear to actually be receiving any location data, as turning on the live data track does not update to my current location.

I'm a bit stumped on what's the issue and as far as I can tell, my GPS should be outputting the NMEA messages that Reefmaster is looking for. I'm sure this is a very simple question but any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has an idea on how to do this more simply, that would also be appreciated. Is there a way to just collect the high accuracy GPS data and stich it over the sonars positional data from the fish finder? From what I've read on the forum, the method I am attempting is the proper way to go about it.

Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

Hi,
We would like to get the bottom of why some serial connections are not recognised by ReefMaster. Could you please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we can arrange for a modified RM version with COM port logging enabled to help resolve this issue.

I actually ended up figuring it out. The com port I was using just wasn't configured properly. Once I figured that out, the GPS connected properly and updated the location. Dumb mistake, thank you for the reply.
