Hello everyone,

For benthic habitat mapping we recently switched from autochart pro to reefmaster v.2. During recording we set the range of the sonar to 25 meters. This 25 meters was at some points not broad enough, resulting in gaps in the mosaic. Is it possible to broaden the max range to more than the 25 meters we used during recording? In autochart pro this was possible, so I suspect that
the sonar return data outside of the 25 meters should be in the recording.

Thanks in advance!

The range recorded on HB units is the maximum range across sidescan and 2D depths. If the 2D depth range is larger than the displayed sidescan range, then it can indeed be the case that there is "extra" sidescan recorded that AC is able to reveal. In ReefMaster we always display the full recorded range, so if you can only see 25m in RM then that is all of the data that was recorded.
Although it can seem like a good idea to cover more ground by recording sidescan with a very large range, it is important to note that ping frequency drops off quickly as range is reduced. e.g. you might get 25 pings/second at 15m range, but only 10 p/s at 30m range. This is simply a limitation due to the speed of sound in water, and can drastically reduce resolution along the time axis.

Thank you Matt for the quick reply. I guess I than have to deal with some gaps in my mozaic.

Greetings,
