A friend of mine from Sweden has sent me four .sl2-files from his Elite 7 so I can make him a map in RM. This is my first attempt with data from Elite 7, previously I have only used data from my own HDS Gen 1 and HDS Gen 2 units. (No problem with that data.)

When using the data in Navicos own mapping-software, it turns out good. But when I import the four sonarlogs to RM they end up on the westcoast of India, and about 900 meters below sealevel. :) The sonarlogs are from a lake in Sweden.

I have used the specified Elite-setup for import. Any ideas on how to fix this? Could there be a problem with the calculation between the files from Elite 7 and RM or have I done something wrong during import?

Hi,
There is (was) a bug in the Elite 7 where the latitude and longitude were transposed in the log files - and this sounds like exactly what is happening with your imports (try this: look at a track point lat and lon, and see where you would end up if you reversed those values..).
The setting "Using Lowrance Elite 7" in the Equipment Profile simply transposes the latitude and longitude values after import. If you had it set, try re-importing without it checked. You may have a logfile that doesn't have the old bug.

Let me know how you get on,
Matt

That worked like a charm. :)

I unticket the Elite-box in the unit-setup and reimported the files. It was all good from there.

Thanks Matt, fast and accurate response.

No problem!
We should probably update the documentation to state that the problem "may or may not exist". Unfortunately there are still plenty of log files around that exhibit this bug, so we do need to keep the option in there for now.

cheers,
Matt

Another issue turned up.... The Elite 7 woun't take the chartfile. I'll have to do some more testing, but I'll get back to this when I have more info.

I have done a few tests now. The .lcm-file works great in my HDS Gen 2, but it woun`t uppload in the Elite 7 that my swedish friend has. It can be seen in the Files-section in the Elie 7, just not as an upploadable option. Is there a different format for the Elite 7 then the HDS-units?

Looks good on my HDS though. This is a screenshot from my HDS.

Make sure that the map option is set to "Lowrance" in the charting options. As far as I know, LCM files do display well on the Elite 7 so hopefully this is just a config issue.

cheers,
Matt

Problem solved, and one happy swede now has his local lake as a contour-map on his Elite 7. :)

Using the Lowrance export (offcourse) and the normal settings as for my HDS-units.

On Elite models the chart must go into a folder called Maps0 on the SD card.
