Hi Matt,

Now I may have been spending too much time making maps lately, but I can't seem to find the Map Opacity control in the project window.

If I'm losing it please let me down gently...

Hi Meggs,
It's gone, as we it didn't work so well with the new vector backgrounds. If you really want it back we could take another look.. but for example if you just want to see an image over the map you can either put the image in front (as a foreground overlay) and adjust the opacity of the image, or choose the transparent palette for the map, so you will just see contours over any background image/map (but not depth colours).

Sorry :)

Hi Matt,

I can probably live with having the images in the foreground. I use it to "fine tune" some of my waypoints. The steeper parts of some reefs are easier to spot with an overlay. I have some locations where there are actually holes in flat limestone. These don't show in RM but can be seen clearly on a sidescan mosaic. These are often good hiding places for a particularly tasty crustacean (Jasus Edwardsii).

You might want to revisit your reference manual.

Thanks,
Meggs

Thanks Meggs - I will sort out the manual!
We might be able to sneak it back in in a while - to be honest it was one of the things that was dropped as we pushed to get 1.6 out, and I figured the functionality could be provided in other ways.
If you do want to keep your contours, you can use the transparent palette in the map project, which will get rid of depth colours but keep the contours showing on top of a background image. Or else, as you say, move the image to the foreground whilst you do your waypointing.

cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Here's a couple of images of how I use the overlay.

The sharp parts of this reef show up quite well. The waypoint is an original from landmarks and transferred into my first GPS. This was in the bad old days of selective availabilty.

I'm happy to use the foreground overlay option.
