Greetings,
I installed RM a few weeks ago and have been reading up on all the help, index and support files as well as completing the "How to make a map - Start to Finish' tutorial.

I'm trying to generate at5 Shaded Relief files that will project a georeferenced image onto my Simrad NSS Insights chart. I'm not really concerned about all the colors and contour lines that the at5/Shaded Relief files are applying to my chart because I only want to see the image. I'm going to apply my own vector lines over the chart image if I can ever get it to display.

The images I'm using are screenshots from bathymetric mosaics, saved as PNG then georeferenced on Google Earth, saved as KMZ (sometimes KMZ Overlay) then imported into RM. I've also tried MBTile formatted images in my RM projects but can't get those to display on my chart either. I've tested with my own sl2 logs and also manually created track points with depth attributes but didn't make a difference.

On my NSS, I have Shaded Relief selected on the Insights chart. I've also tried the NSS Navionics chart with the same results.

Since I'm new to RM, I'm sure I'm missing a crucial step in the Map Project to get the images on my chart. I've attached screenshots on my Map Project properties and how the project looks after imported into the NSS. I really like the Shaded Relief maps, they're awesome and am using in other areas of my chart, but looking to resolve my image display problems now.

Thank you very much.

I assume that you have added the image as a layer within the project?
How are you exporting the map? Preset style or full export? If full export, please show a screen shot of the settings during export. Since your unit is showing the shaded relief image OK, it doesn't appear to be a problem there.

Hi Matt,
Yes, the image is the primary layer in the layer list and docked to the Isobath layer. See the screen shot in original post. I posted a few screen shots of the layer list, Map Project properties, track properties and depth points.

I tested exports of only the Shaded Relief Preset Style maps and I didn't think Vector maps supported image generation. The screenshots I attached on the original post are the "Color Gradient Shaded Relief" style and the "Flat Raster Background" map.

Don't use preset export styles for more complicated map projects that include custom layers, such as yours. The preset styles are meant for simple exports of common map styles but won't pick up your extra raster layer.
Firstly, make sure that your map is displaying how you want it - i.e. any raster layer you want is visible and in the correct Z order. Then export using the plain "Export Map Project" option and check the "Export Raster Layers" option. You may have to experiment with the "Type" field, as different firmwares will display (or not) differently. For reference, we use "Raster Chart" during a preset style export and, since the raster element of the map you exported is showing on your unit you might want to stick with that option. See image below for a good starting point for export settings, but also take a look at the manual for more.

Try software -downgrade, since 18.2 update there's problem with shaded relief maps in my EVO3, fellas with GO units have similar problem.

Matt,
Thank you very much for the guidance on the proper procedures to get my images to display on my Simrad unit. There's a few things I need to tweak to get the images to display correctly.
1. The images I'm working with are high resolution bathymetric survey images screenshoted then georeferenced on Google Earth. When viewing the image on my Map Project map, Im' able to zoom in to the level which I took the screenshot, so they look good. However when I view the image on my Simrad, the image is quite blurry after zooming in below 100 feet. I have the Min. Resolution set to 1 in the Export at5 Map settings. Are there any additional steps I can take to show the original high resolution built into the images? When taking the screen shots, I try to zoom in to the maximum extent without the image becoming too pixelated. So just curious if there's a best practice for saving high resolution images or if there's a setting in ReefMaster that could be adjusted to retain the resolution attributes. (See attached screenshots of image quality on Google Earth compared to the quality after it's imported into my unit.

2. I'm sure my lack of understanding of how boundaries work is causing this, but despite using the "Define Boundaries" tool to create a border around the image prior to export, I see a very large rectangle getting blanked out when viewing the image on my unit. I am using the Shoreline boundary as well since I'm under the impression that using Island would eclipse all my map data inside the circle. I did read up a little more on this and it seems that my best bet may be to import Google Earth generated vector polygon to enclose my image (desired map boundaries). See screenshot of the large void around my map.

3. I would like to map 10 or so fish havens in my region with bathymetric images then combine each fish haven project into one so I can import them all at once into my unit. Is this possible? I'll continue reading up on the manual to see if I can answer my own question, however it's not clear if multiple at5 project file exports can reside on the same root directory of my sd card and be read by my unit.

Thanks in advance for any feedback, I really appreciate your support. ReefMaster is an awesome tool. Keep up the good work.

1. You can go a lot smaller than 1 for your minimum resolution (minimum value is 0.015625). Note that the resulting map files will get much larger with smaller min resolution values, and the map generation time will get longer.
2. The rectangle surrounding your exported map is part of the way AT5 maps work on the units, and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it - changing map boundaries won't help here.
3. Yes, you can. Make sure to check "Project based naming" so that your at5 files are given different names. Things can get a bit trickier with multiple raster exports. How close are your areas? It might be easier to export them all at once as a single map (group select map projects in the asset list at left of workspace and choose the export option). Don't do this if the areas are many miles apart and you are exporting raster as you will end up with huge generate times and a massive map file (if it finishes at all).

I was able to get some real clear images zoomed down to 20ft elevation on my unit by refining the project export Minimum Resolution and keeping the map boundaries within a reasonable processing threshold. Thanks for the advice. I think the age of the survey data and the tools used by the survey teams to process the images have an affect on the final visual resolution when loaded onto a unit. Newer survey images resolve to a much higher level of clarity on my machine.

I'm working on compiling multiple projects now for export now.

Thanks.
