HI fellow users.

I am looking to get a structure 3d to use with reefmaster. I am wondering if this is an over kill, as all i want to do is take the structure scan into reefmaster. I don't need 3d on the headunit in the boat. Any suggestions?

The best thing with the SS 3D is not the 3D. That is actually quite useless as long as you are used to reading and understanding SideScan. The best thing is the improved SideScan. Both usable range and general sharpness is a lot better then LSS-2.

So yes, StructureScan 3D is very useful for making mosaics in Reefmaster.

I would know if StructureScan 3D (.sl3 file) may improve creating contour map in ReefMaster, compared to using sidescan data by Active Imaging 3-in-1? I mean, does it record provide more ping data in a single passage (like a true multibeam), and/or ReefMaster use just the central pings?

Actually, I'll really appreciate advice to choose the better device and transducer to create bathymetry in shallow coastal water (up to 50 m depth).

Although in theory the SS3D is able to record depth data to the side of the boat, we are currently unable to use this data within ReefMaster. We use the single depth beneath the boat.

Your best choice of transducer is the one with the narrowest coneangle. Airmar P66 and TM260 beeing in a class of their own in that regard, although Lowrance/ Simrad HST-DFSBL is not that far behind and is better at showing fish in those depths than P66.

And just to add to Matts reply, even if you could use depthdata from the sides, that does not mean you should. The quality of such data would be very dependent on the sideways movememt of the boat (roll).
