Hello-

I have purchased an elite 7TI to be used for mapping. I also have the lowrance external GPS antenna. These two items are working great with each other.

Now that I have all that wired up and working I am now trying to get the live data part of the software to work with my Lowrance.

I have a Nmea network which includes GPS, Lowrance, power input and computer.

I just used one extra nmea cable that I had to attempt to make an adaptor to go NMEA>DB9>USB. The cable that I had was 5 wires. BLUE, WHITE, RED, BLACK, and bare wire strand.

Is this the right cable? Can anyone explain what color of NMEA goes to what pin on the DB9 terminals? Im at a loss right now and its driving me crazy.

THanks!

Hi!

As far as I know you need to setup NMEA 0183 in order to use Live Data - this is actually old gooв COM-port. To setup it on Elite Ti you need a power+data cable instead of the one you have.
NMEA 2000 network cannot be directly connected to computer, some converter is required..

Anyone have any idea why I am receiving data and showing my boat on the computer but the boat is a little jerky. The directional arrow of the boat on the computer is all over the place. If I point the GPS to 0 Degrees (approx) the boat will move 45 degree heading all over the place but the coordinates stay true... Is this normal? Anyone had this issue?

This is quite normal if the boat stationary, this is why the Point 1 GPS was introduced for the HDS. The Point 1 GPS has a built in compass to give a true heading once its calibrated.

Yes - without an actual compass connected, the heading is derived from the course (actually, it *is* the course), and with only a 1m resolution to the positions used to derive the course this can give rise to very erratic "headings". I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless you need the headings for some other purpose. We smooth headings within RM prior to use for transducer offset or sidescan mosaic positioning for this reason, unless true headings have been provided.
