My sonar viewer gets stack on the loading screen when i try to load sl2 files. It says "Loading sonar file..." and then it freezes so i need to stop it from the task manager. I have been loading the same files in the past without a problem. I am using windows 10.
I haven't used the sonar viewer for quite some time and the last time i tried to run it there's was an update, no idea if that has anything to do with it.

I have the same problem except I'm loading Humminbird .dat files. It gets stuck on the last part of "loading sidescan data", freezes, blacks out the screen and then is just a blank window.

I had the trial version of RM2 and it worked fine so I downloaded the sonar viewer (because that's all I was using). It works fine in other programs but this just crashes, no crash report, program just "not responding" and having to go into task manager to force close.

I flagged this with Matt that I thought it was an AMD issue - I know think it is as two of PC's with AMD graphics cards fail.

We'll look into it. Did the Sonar Viewer used to work OK on this machine? Has anything changed graphics wise? Nothing in that area has changed recently in the SV. If you are running a laptop with integrated graphics and a discrete graphics card, which card are you set up to use?

Hi Matt.
Yes it used to work fine. I haven't used it the last few months though and last week when i tried to run it it crashed.
It's not a laptop, it's a PC with an AMD Radeon R9200 series GPU and nothing has changed graphics wise. I downloaded the radeon crimson app today to update the drivers but the problem remains.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

edit/ on second thought, windows update might of installed drivers for my GPU in between the time when it was working and the time it first crash? no idea really

Thanks skinnee

edit 2/ Wow, skinnee nailed it, i disabled the GPU from the device manager so the pc can run with the onboard intel graphics and hey presto, sonar viewer runs without crashing. Is there a solution to run it with my GPU?

Matt - I have a dedicated Radeon r9 390 with 8mb on my Pc and it fails

It also fails on a MacBook with 2mb amd Radeon

It's an AMD related issue :)

It also runs with older AMD drivers from 2015. Something was introduced in later drivers that cause sonar viewer to crash

Ok, if you are running windows 10, windows update will automatically install the latest drivers and sonar viewer will start crashing again.
Download this troubleshooter tool from Microsoft, run it, choose hide updates and select "advanced micro devices media"
support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3073930...installing-in-window

It would be great if the devs of sonar viewer can come up with an update that fixes the issue with newer drivers.
