I saw there was another topic about the Gen 3 but I didn't want to hi-jack.

Basically I've upgraded my sonar unit from a Gen 2 touch to a Gen 3. I assumed I could just copy everything from my SD card to a micro SD card and it would work, it didn't. On the Gen 3 I was given 3 chart sources, Navionics, Lowrance and MyReefmasterChart.at5 . Selecting MyReefmasterChart gave the chart as you would expect except there was no way of showing the raster layer bottom scans. All options were greyed out on the HDS unit. If I selected Lowrance as the chart source I got the very basic Lowrance world map, none of the detail of my reefmaster chart (no matter how zoomed in), but I did have the option to include the photo layer and see my bottom scans. First things first I checked for updates and my unit was running version 4.0 whilst the current version is 4.5 I assumed this was the problem.

So I upgraded the Gen 3 to 4.5 and this is where things got even worse. I no longer have the extra chart source option and selecting Lowrance works as you'd expect (zooming shows my reefmaster chart). However the unit is very unresponsive, hangs and crashes after approx 30 seconds. So I wiped the SD card, generated the AT5 map again in Reefmaster using the latest Atlas version (13) and making sure everything was using an AT5 palette just to be on the safe side, it crashed the unit again. If I use the Gen 3 with either a blank SD card or no card it works as expected. I tried my chart on 3 different Micro SD cards with no joy. I've tried creating an AT5 of one of the demo projects, same result, it crashes.

I currently manually export the AT5 map, Atlas version 13, no raster layer, and no project naming (I'm using the default large.at5 to keep things simple). Could somebody who has this working on a Gen 3 firmware 4.5 please share their settings so I can try and get this working?

Many thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,
I am testing here on an HDS9 Gen3 running the latest (4.5) firmware with no issues. What version of the IMC are you using? Perhaps worth a soft-reset (start with "pages" button held down). This has fixed a few map glitches in the past for me.

Cheers Matt. I'm using IMC 0.7.4

I'm going to pick up a brand new Micro SD card tomorrow just in case, will try the soft reset at the same time.

Couldn't wait, I'm not very patient. Did a soft reset and still the same problem. Just before chucking the unit through the window I checked the 3 SD cards I've used, all class 1 by coincidence, who even sells these anymore?? Borrowed and wiped the card from my phone which is a class 4, everything worked great again.

Lesson learnt but it would be nice if Lowrance could handle things a little more elegantly than putting the unit in to an endless crash/boot loop until you pull the power.

Hi Paul,

Just good to know. Now you use a class 4, I expect 2-4 GB card. When you are intend to use bigger cards 8-128GB take a class 10. Ofcourse the class 4 is cheaper, but more chance of trouble.

Cheers,

Guido
