I'm loving V2! I was just able to create a shaded relief map of over half of my 90-mile-long (144KM) reservoir, and export it as an AT5 file that the sonar is reading! I could never creat such a large map previously. Is this a fluke, or will I be able to do this from now on? Same computer as I've always had, and same HDS8 Gen2's. Before long, I'm going to attempt one shaded relief for the whole 90 mile long lake, just to see. Full report of my last 30 hours coming soon in "news."

On a related note, Matt wrote in another thread, "It is also possible now to simply export a set of projects at once; just group select in the asset list, right click and export. Depending on what you are trying to achieve, this might be the easiest option"

So, if I have 5 projects, one for each part of the lake, and export them all at once as one AT5 shaded relief map, could I put that one AT5 on a card for the whole lake?

Yes - RM2 supports bigger maps than RM1! I'm not sure I would go for 90 miles in one map though - that is really pushing it. I think you'll get a much better experience with a few smaller maps, and either group export or copy the layers you want to a single map before export. I think if you are exporting to AT5, there is actually very little point in copying everything to a single map - better to keep each map separate, and generate as required. Then just group-select and export (note this could take a little time, since all the maps need to be loaded first). Also make sure you are using the same fixed-depth palette for all map projects, and you should get shaded relief with the same colour sets for the depths.

Yes, I just froze it trying to do the whole lake, but I'm going to see if I can do the group export after I generate a few new maps (individual projects) after a restart.

In the beta group we have tested really big areas or millons of points in smaller areas.

With smaller point density a 8 GB ram pc can create about 1.500 km² area² (point raster 50 x 50 m). The same pc create a chart from e few hundred km², based on about 14 mio. points!!! This is giant in comparison with other programs.

For bigger areas as the pc performance allow, use the map boundaries for exactly port's charts.
If you have a HDS/Elite Ti, there is not a problem with the number of AT5 sets (each project = one AT5 set).

But you also can use a GIS application to merge all files together, if you export the results from RM as shape files. Merging e. g in QGIS is really simple (recommended for non-HDS/Elite Ti user).

In principle there is no border in the size for vector datas. For raster datas the size of the sd-card is the limitation.

My biggest RM project has 21 parts (= projcts, split across 4 workspaces) with about 25.500 km², as vector datas < 25 MB.

But note you also can export shape files (Land, OSM, ...), edit and export as AT5. In this case (= no interpolation) the areas are much, much bigges as for depth datas.

Update: While I slept, I ran RM to export three of my larger projects into one AT5 Shaded Relief of the entire 90 mile long lake. I woke up to success, as it sits in my AT5 file. Haven't tried it in the HDS Gen2 yet, and I'm waiting for ice-out on the lake so my trials will be limited until then. But, that was really easy. I made sure that all the variables, layers, and water levels offsets were equal on all three projects. Near as I can tell from the time stamp on the map, it took several hours while I slept, but the map area was giant. The beauty of this is that I still can maintain and update any of the smaller projects with new data and combine them at a later time. Is their any way to store projects outside of RM, or are they only kept inside of a given workspace? Could I store different workspaces on a drive? I can see a lot of them coming for different water levels, like 5 different projects for 5 different water levels. And even with different sun angle settings depending on the shape of the structure. (Love that easy adjustment)
