While logging tracks, I would like to have a way to have relatively straight and evenly spaced tracks to produce good sidescan mosaic maps. Does anyone know of a way to import transect lines or a grid with designated intervals to follow while generating tracks? I am currently using a Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 3. I could see the transects either being imported into the HDS unit itself or within the RM software while generating maps using the Log Live Tracks. Thanks

Thanks Fjordfisher. After a bit of a learning curve on the OpenCPN program, I was able to able to generate and import into the HDS unit a .gpx file route with 60-ft transect lines at 45-degrees to conform with the longest shoreline of a local lake. Would be nice if this could be restricted to the perimeter of the lake but this will accomplish the goal. I did find another website that discussed generating these lines in ArcGIS using a tool called Fishnet. I downloaded a trial version of ArcGIS and will let you know if I can figure this other method out. Thanks again.

Fish net in the ArcToolbox (data management) is a fine tool. But the most users will have problems to operate with this program, it's really a professional solution. Next problem is the conversion into an AT5 file or a gpx/usr. I propose the simpler solution for hobbyists.

Another option could be GlobalMapper using the 'Create regular grid' tool
