I have problems with side scan because often I make side scanning on the same "route" twice.. I'am looking for a way to setup wapoints and then route for future side scanning.

for example: you specify side scan range.. then with a program you select a rectangle (area) on the map.. the program then divide this area and makes waypoints. Horizontal waypoints are distant for side scan range (each other).. After import of this waypoints into sonar you must only do a route and it's ready...

If you are looking at the image... those red points are waypoints.. the start waypoint is in the lower left corner and the end waypoint is on the upper right corner.. The horizontal waypoints are distant for a lenght you specify (side scan range).. The green line is a route to make manualy in sonar from imported waypoints.. With this option will be easier to setup and cover certain region of terrain..

(excuse for my poor english)

Hi Peter
For scanning in this moment, I use a tool in OpenCpn,.
It's a free navigation soft, this tool is SAR, it make survey gird as you want.
It's easy to use.
I separe navigation and scan, but i think you can import the result in reef in GPPX.

Cool tip.
Here is a sample for a small inland lake (shoreline as gpx imported, 20 m line distance). Turn and drive to the next line upon sight. Or is there a better way?

Hi
yes, i see your lake, you can turn the survey gird using approach course to go on long distance paralel of the shoreline and it's ok
if you use "nonimap view", you can make a google earth capture in OZI explorer format, i get tool to convert easly (in one clik) in KAP format directly used in opencpn
imagine ....

0° is only a fast sample. My intention is to use the gpx as track in my HDS (not as route - i don't have an auto pilot). Up to now i used such elements drawing by hand or a GIS program.
You can see it in the Insight Planner - the same as in the HDS unit.

If possible, Matt could implement such a tool into RM with the additional setting: "distance between shoreline/island and track curve" (it's an simple inside buffer), or ignore the island for now (drive round in the reality).
