I'm working on a mapping project for a scuba Divemaster course I'm taking. I want to create a depth chart of a local dive quarry, but don't have lot to spend on a fancy Sonar/GPS unit. This will likely be a one time use. Being unfamiliar with both the hardware and software I am having some difficulty understanding what is and is not compatible with Reef Master.

One unit I have been looking at is the Humminbird Helix 5 GPS. I can get one with transducer for $280 on Amazon. Add another $150 for Reef Master, and its getting out of my budget, but so far this is the cheapest option I have found that as far as I can tell will work.

After reading through some other posts on the forum here, it appears that Lowrance units are also compatible. I came across a new Lowrance Mark 4 CHIRP for $165, which definitely puts this whole project closer to my budget. But, before I drop the money on it, want to confirm it is compatible, and also track down any possibility of yet a cheaper option.

Mark 4 CHIRP/ Mark 4 HDI are both compatible. I actually use a Mark 4 HDI myself on my RC-boat for mapping small ponds.
