Not sure if i am repeating this.
I have a Lowrance HDS and thinking to get a new Garmin with Down Vu and Side Vu.
Am i correct in understanding that Reefmaster is not compatible?

That is correct. At this time, we cannot use sonar data from Garmin and nor can we generate maps that be displayed on Garmin units. It may be possible to use depth data recorded on a Garmin unit if it is first converted to the GPX format. This can be used to create maps but not to view sonar.

Garmin Echomap units do not support 3rd party charts, nor do any other units if you update date them to the latest firmware (within the last year). A very good reason to steer clear of Garmin, which is quite a shame as they produce very nice sidescan units.
This situation came about as a result of a little disagreement with Navionics, consequently a lot of people feel they wasted rather a lot of money now that they find their waters uncharted by Garmin, and unable to run charts made by local producers.
