Hello,

After spending a lot of time with getting good depth charts over the last year with other products (Navionics, Insight Genesis) I finally discovered Reefmaster. After playing around with the trial version I decided to purchase a Pro licence together with the bottom composition module. I must say that I’m very happy with the end result. So please keep up the good work.

At the moment I do have one (or actually two) additional questions, which I don’t know if it is possible. Currently I created a user map with opacity and exported it as an AT5 map for my Lowrance Elite 7Ti unit. As stated in the Reefmaster reference RF creates a ‘dummy’ raster layer behind the vector map. It uses the standard Navico shore color for this raster.
- Is it possible to change this standard color, which will be used for this raster?
- Is it possible to make this raster transparent so that I can see my default openstreetmap background instead of this single color?

At the moment it is not possible to change the colour of the dummy raster - this is chosen to match the existing land colour.
Unfortunately transparency in raster layers is not possible - a raster is always completely opaque, and takes up map space based on how many "blocks" of raster area are used. This is why the dummy raster layer (usually) occupies more space than the map project area.
You should be able to see your OSM line features on top of the raster, but not the existing Lowrance base map. If you generate your OSM map together with your RM map then you should be able to see your OSM polygon features on top of your raster as well.
Perhaps the easiest solution is not to use raster at all in AT5 maps, as it is quite limiting - I guess it depends on how much you like the shaded relief background!

Ok Matt,

thank you for your reply. I really do like the maps you can create with the opaque feature so I think I will do it with the default dummy raster.
Another problem I'm facing is that I cannot turn off the bottom hardness layer on my Elite 7Ti. When I go to go to the menu and select "chart options," then "view," then "categories." I can turn on/off a lot of options. Even if I turn off all the options the bottom hardness layer is still visible on top of the default depth layer.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I'll test that and get back to you, as I have an Elite 7Ti right here.

Uitje,

The issue you are seeing is likely the same as this issue (reefmaster.com.au/index.php/forum/suppor...s-lowrance-hds-gen-2).

The issue is that when a chart card with a description string is first inserted into the chart plotter, the category list is getting set. Inserting new cards does not update the list.

There's 2 ways to work around this:
* Use a description string for your map so there's no cross over with other maps. This would require you to export your source files from Reefmaster and generate the map directly in the Insight Map Creator.
* Use a soft reset or Restore your default "Local Settings" on the chart plotter. This resets the state of all saved category lists (in addition to a number of other settings) which allows it to be set the next time you insert a chart with a given description string. Note that if the map does not have a description string (default through Reefmaster), you need to have the card you are using in the card reader because the category list will get set by the embedded maps.

gpiverson,

I just tried to do it like you described. I tried both methods (soft reset and restore local settings) but without success. When the system has booted with the card installed it still shows the hardness layer on top of the depth layer. The category list is still the same and even if I turn off all the options again, the hardness layer is still there. Any other ideas?

Post screenshot(s) of your category list. Making sure that the proper categories are listed in the menu.

gpiverson,

today I was thinking about what could be the reason that is was not working, when I remembered that there was a default background map on the sdCard I used besides the reefmaster chart. Now I removed the default background map as well and I did a soft reset again. Finally I now see different categories and when turning off the first one the hardness background was gone. Thank you for your help.
