I had a few issues when I went to open RM for the first time in several months. First, it didn't recognize my license. I installed a software update and re-entered my activation number, which worked to allow m to open the program. Then I opened a few projects that I had worked on last year and noticed that some features had disappeared. I had added some creek channel and roadbed overlays as KMZ files last time I worked with these projects. This time around they were gone. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any fix short of reconstructing the mapping project?

Sadly, I don't get a chance to use this software that much, so I'm not as proficient in it as I would like to be. So I'm now in the process of trying to track each component / KMZ file down so that I can try to add them back to my RM project. I found a few files for one, but when I try to add them to the project as images (which I believe is how I did it originally), it doesn't like it. I get an error stating, "object reference not set to instance of an object". What does that mean? Where am I going wrong?

Are you talking about KMZ image overlays or tracks/paths? If the latter, it is likely that these were added to a user map, and not a project. Could this be the case? Yes, that was it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I had forgotten how I had done that and where to look to find it. Is that the intended way to add paths like that, as tracks on the map?

I just need to figure out how to get more chances to log data. Then I'll have more opportunities to use RM and these other GIS platforms and get more comfortable with them. As infrequently as I use it now, it spend the first several hours re-learning how the software works.

Somehow the order of the points on one of my custom paths got all screwed up. What can I do to fix this?

Export to csv, sort by time, re-import ?

Can you remember what editing steps you took before that happened? I can't think of a way to reorder them if it is a custom path that you created yourself - there is no time information associated with those points. How hard would it be to recreate?

This was a path that I downloaded from the USGS. I then added some additional points for accuracy. Since those all end up at one end of the list, I duplicated some of the existing points and then deleted the ones that were out of order. It worked fine until I opened it back up yesterday. That was the first time that I noticed the points being rearranged. I hadn't done anything with the project, map, or any other components.

I was hoping that I could just create a bunch of duplicate points in the right order and then go back and delete the earlier (out of order) copies. Most of the time that works just fine, but for some reason it didn't like it this time around. I'll see what I can do to recreate it. Either that or I'll just edit the list of points manually.
