Hi there, I am new to RM and I am trying to synchronize a Spectra Precision EPOCH 5O GPS with the Humminbird 788ci Echo-sounder. Both are transmitting NMEA0183 however I have being unable to successfully connect them through RM. Have any of you used this equipment combination? Is there a step by step guide to do this? I have follow the instructions provided in the user guide but no luck.
Cheers
Diego

Hi Diego,
What is your current configuration and what are you hoping to achieve from the setup?

The HB should be able to output position and depth, so I assume you are trying to combine better quality position data from your other device with the depth output of the Humminbird unit? If so, then you need to configure the HB to send depth information only (not position). I'm not actually sure this is possible on that unit, which might just have an NMEA "on" or "off" without fine-grained control over the messages which are sent. If it is possible, then you need to send only depth (DPT or DBT) messages from the Humminbird, to a COM port on your PC. You then need to have position messages (RMC or GLL) sent from your GPS unit to a different COM port, and configure RM to listen to both of those ports.

On most modern computers you will need a serial to USB converter which attaches to the computer via USB and provides a standard serial port on the other end, to which the NMEA output is connected. The driver software for the USB converter will create a COM port for you.
