Yes - the data is there, and the possibilities are exciting. We are hopeful that Navico will give us permission to use the new format, as we have had a good relationship with them in the past - hopefully I will have more news soon.

CHOOhonets are you sure, that the SS3D signal really contains correct depth values for an exact 3D model or (more probably) only datas for a relative area model?

Sorry, wasn't able to understand your question.
Group of guys from Russia are now testing the idea - there are some issues, but in general it looks OK.

PS Implementing Lowrance Precision-9 Compass (with the needed software upgrade) is what I personally believe would make the leap!

"Group of guys from Russia" - is there a website with further informations?

Thanks

A really 3D Modell you can create (e. g. in RM or ther GIS applications) with a big lot of points with x, y an z values. You can use your tracks in this case, the more/denser the better. Commercial equipment for this application is much more expensive as SS3D for the customer.

As you know from photo or movie software, you also can create a pseudo 3D from a single or two pictures/movie tracks.

Not really. Just a forum thread in russian. Don't think it will help, nevertheless:

In SonarWiz added support for bathymetric data in SL3 format obtained in the StructureScan 3D

I think getting depth information of the 3D sonar is more an educated guess.

As I think the 3D sonar works it is similar with taking to pictures with a camera from a different angle. Then you are able to measure in a picture. The 3D transducer has what I think 2 sidescantransducers in a slightly different angle so they are able to create 3D.

If it is already possible to measure depth. GPS, Pitch, Role and Heave will become more important to get reliable depth. The 3D sonar is no multibeam!

I recently made the mistake of not checking the recording format of my GO7, hence all the files where recorded in the sl3 format. (It was 5 days of back to back fishing so naturally I was quiet disappointed.) I uploaded the files to insight genesis and then downloaded the created GPX files which I then uploaded into Reefmaster.

From Reefmaster I exported the files into a csv format, modified the depth data to "feet", in excel (google sheets will also work) deleted the GPX files in Reefmaster and re-imported the modified data back to Reefmaster as tracks.

All is good and I know have usable tracks with depth. :)

You can use SL3 format in RM2 already.

There was a problem in 1 version, I guess it was 2.0.34. You should check that before you start your project:

Actually SL3 is supported since 2.0.33. Problem with the depths in 2.0.34 was not related to SL3 and in 2.0.35 it has been fixed.
