I can merge tiff files of sat imagery and shaded relief exports in qgis, but only small lakes.


Larger lakes get a memory error in both linux and windows7. This PC has 8 gb and should be ok to merge files that vary from 1-3gb, especially in linux, so I've come to understand this is more an issue how gdal_merge.py works. I've read that Gdal warp is recommended to merge large rasters (HERE) but I can't figure how to merge the two files in warp.

Can anyone offer any insight on how this is done or alternative ways to merge the rasters? Even the smaller lakes I've merged I'm seeing a loss in definition)
