I am working on my favorite lake to fish. How do you guys go about making mosaics in vegetated lakes? I have a lake that averages about 6-7 feet but has about 4 feet of plants throughout. Do you have any tips on getting good side scan through the plants? I can only get good data about 20 feet out so it is hard to make good tracks, is there a way to see further out through the plants? I am trying to get good data for ice fishing season when all of the plants are dead. I am running a humminbird 698 hdsi.

I have mapped a lake where large areas look like "your" lake. Quite simply I did the mapping in early spring, before the plants where big enough to be a problem. Scanning sonar is sensitive stuff, so I see no way to make it "see through" the weeds without missing structure as well.

Thanks for the input, I have a decent amount of background in side scan tech but only in clean waters and well I figured this was the answer I was going to get. I was hoping that someone had found a setting or way to "cut through plants". This is an ever changing technology so I figured I would ask. I am though working on a nice project that will be nice on the eyes, thanks again.
