Exporting contours to Google Earth KMZ files is a nice solution for mobile display of your maps.
There are a range of configuration options in the export window, including colour coding of contours, whether to show minor contours separately (and at what relative zoom level they appear), and background fill.

Here's a couple of different variations:

1. Colour coded contours, with separate minors and no background - shown on a Google Nexus 4 Android phone.



2. Plain contours (not colour coded), with a shoreline fill of light blue. Minor contours are shown separately, but are not visible at this zoom level. This map is on a Google Nexus 7 inch tablet.



And the same map as above, but zoomed in so that the minor lines are visible.




To show a map on your mobile device, you first need to install Google Earth. Google Earth on mobile doesn't have a way of opening files from the application. Instead you need to select "view" for the KMZ file itself. On iOS, the easiest way to do this is to email yourself the file, and open the file from your iOS email viewer. In Android, you can either mail yourself the file, or install a file manager app, and copy the file to a folder on your Android device, then browse to the file and open it using your file manager.

Here is my first attempt. Seems to work great on my IPad, can't wait to test it on the water.
