Is there a good reason why Reefmaster don't let us open multiple instances ?

It could be really usefull, and save us a lot of time making chart. My computer is able to take more... I run really often 3-4 GlobalMapper (And many other big software), and never had a single issue with that...

Thanks

Fred

If you have a big map and a high resolution your computer will be more than full capacity. My computer need for calculation my map 6-8 minutes. In this time you can´t do anything!
So more than 1 instance makes no sence!

Sorry, but your comment don'T make sens...

I can get 3-4 GlobalMapper working at the same time on large data and 3d map, imagery and elevation data, using more than 1gb of memory each, it take a lot more ressources than juste one ReefMaster, and never had a single issue...

Yes my computer is able to run more than one instance of ReefMaster at time, and easily !

I juste did a test, when generating a big map, ReefMAster use only about 1.5gb of Ram, and 15-20% of the CPU...There is place for other ReefMaster...

And what is the longest task to do with ReefMAster, it's exporting map with preset style, and ReefMAster use 0% of CPU while this time, using only 1.2gb of memory... InsightMapCreator use only 70MB of memory, and 15% of CPU... But it take hours to generate the map. ReefMaster is not working at all, only Insight Map creator...

While this time, I should work on others map in ReefMaster... But we can't because we can'T open two instance of ReefMaster... It resume with many time lost waiting the IMC... And I don'T have time to waste... I would be 4-5 time more productive with 2-3-4 ReefMAster working at the same time... AND YES, MY COMPUTER CAN EASILY TAKE IT.

I'm software developper, I know how it work too... And all other software let you use multiple processors and Ram, they let you use all the ressources available, and they let you work multi-task... What they where designed for... But ReefMaster remove that basic fonctionnality of our computer of theses days... They are made for that... Why to remove that functionnality ?

There is a reason why only a single instance is allowed, but it is probably something we could resolve. I'll look into it.

Look at my daily use, my taskbar always look like that...

And when ReefMaster is working, I have no problem using any other software, already open or not...

It's not because your computer is not able to do it than every computer on the planet can't...

In Reefmaster you can´t do anything!

Look at your CPU load (=> 100%) and memory load (my computer uses the full memory / 32gb RAM).

Thanks AnglingCharts.

I never see the need of multiples monitor. When a software run in the background, I don't need to see it work... But it could be interresting, but it's not a necessity for me. And I miss some space in my office tu put extra monitors. In other way, Big CPU and Memory ressources are more important to be able to run all theses software... And don't forget the SSD hard drive to be able to use CPU and memory ressources at their full potential.

What you don't understand in that:
fvignola wrote:
"ReefMAster use only about 1.5gb of Ram, and 15-20% of the CPU...There is place for other ReefMaster..."

Look at my CPU load by yourself...

In this picture, ReefMaster is generating a big Map... More, while this time, GlobalMapper is loading a big 3d project with many lakes and river in 3D... That never come close to 100% load, NEVER.

AGAIN, Yes, my computer can take much more... It's not because your computer can't do that, than every computer on the planet can't...

BTW, note that my taskbar is almost empty, it's because I just restarted my computer 30 min ago... :)

Have you even thought of the HDD as a bottleneck?

I'm using a SSD for my OS, and I have another SSD, OCZ Revo Drive 3 on PCIe 1000mb/s read and write, only to work my map, I don't have HDD issue, except for the space available... ;) I now have over 300gb of data log, which is began to be problematic... So I'm ordering another SSD PCIe, 512gb or 1TB. And it will be 1000mb/s write minimum too...

AND, if I'll work on two different map at time, with two Reefmaster instances, I'll built a map on a SSD, and the other on the other SSD...

My computer is optimized, not to play game, but to built map ;)
