Hi,

I am currently struggling with my waypoint collection. I never imagined that this could be a problem, but apparently it is.
I have tried a bunch of different applications in order to batch rename, and batch change the icons, but there is no one single application I have found so far that can do this in a good way. HumminbirdPC comes closest though.

It is so silly, because when I search the Internet I see that lots of people having the same issues, yet none of the giants has solved this for their customers in their own applications (Lowrance, Garmin, Humminbird, etc.).
I am a mostly a Lowrance guy, and the Insight Planner application is unfortunately worst of them all. Not only does it lack functionality, it crashes all the time as well.
And you cannot do this kind of simple batch operation in the HDS units either. So I don't know what they are thinking. Probably they don't at all!

So, Matt,
Do you think it would be possible to add this type of batch edit to the ReefMaster?
It would be wonderful to be able to CTRL-A in the waypoint list and Right-Mouse-Click and select Batch-Change-Icon or Batch-Rename :-)

Thanks
//Mats

Yes, this is a longer known problem. You mean unit waypoints.

As alternate, you can convert your unit waypoints into chart waypoints. In this case, you also can batch rename the waypoints eg in QGIS. Additional you can group point as you want and fade in / fade out by the chart categories.

Yes, I was referring to the waypoints I have created on my HDS units during live boating sessions.
The waypoints are primarily for safety and navigation, but also to keep track on geological spots were fish tends to gather.

I have put a waypoint onto every single dangerous rock in my home water.
Same goes with safe underwater rocks, underwater reefs and structures, and other interesting objects.
The thing is that the names and icons have been messed up over the years, and I would like to rectify that.
I have the different waypoint categories in separate files though, luckily enough.

What exactly do you mean by "chart waypoint"?

The waypoints are of course possible to import to any GIS application and use them as normal vector objects on a map, but how do you mean this could be used in conjunction with ReefMaster?
In the end, all I want is a ReefMaster AT5 chart + an USR file with my waypoints.

Another way to approach this issue would be to implement a function that could "burn in" a corresponding vector icon into the map itself, and just forget about the waypoints when it comes to more static information. I.e. something similar to the S-57 ECDIS objects.
Lets say you put this option on the waypoint set level, so that you simply could chose whether a group of waypoints momentarily should be included in the chart compilation.
Sounds like a lot of NRE though :-)

There is 2 kinds of waypoints in an unit: Unit waypoint, exportable/importable as usr or so, and chart waypoint in an AT5.
As You know, RM also can export charts waypoints als shape files (for later processing in the IMC). If you look to the pic, you will find the attribute table from such a shape as sample. You can edit each field (column) with free GIS Software eg QGIS. This is not such a great problem. We have a lot small manuals for our german user on the tacklefever homepage (sample: www.tacklefever.de/index.php?topic=4142.0). But other websites can give you much more tips for editing Attribute tables.
If you want to batch rename, it's also advantageous to use small SQL query's in the text field "VALUE" (this is the name of the waypoint in the AT5 chart). There is a lot of samples in the net, how you can query in a text field. Such query's mark all found wayoints an these now you can rename its in one step.
