I thought I'd throw this one up as it's been a common request.
The good news that we have already coded up user defined palettes as part of the next release - here's a preview of the palette edit window.

You can create palettes in any colour you want - up to a maximum of 12 different colours in a palette. Colours are interpolated between the specified colours so, if you just want a simple blue -> white gradient you can set the end colours to white and blue. You can then use the palette in the contour, 3D and sonar views. Of course, you have to wait until the next release first!

That feature should be a very useful idea.

Thanks

As ist seems, it also will be possible to set colors e.g. from blue to white like in seacharts, if you put blue as start color and set white not as end, but in the middle and end. So only the very shallow areas get a colored background and with little distance colors change to white.

Another suggestion: Would it be possible to enter depth values, so that shallow areas could be more graduated than the deep areas?
