TOPIC: Auto create boundaries

Hello,

I recently started to use Reefmaster to create my charts. I mostly kayak fishing smaller lakes/rivers in Sweden and those waters are uncharted.

I'd like the ability to "auto create" boundaries, like the mask funktion in Photoshop and an option to edit it.

EDIT: Also "undo " funktion, just deleted a few hours of boundaries creation when I was gonna delete a point.

Best Regards.

Henrik,
Auto boundary create in the way you describe is somewhat beyond the scope of RM I'm afraid - I think it would be prone to error, and hard to get right - also, you would be limited to the OSM background maps, which make decent enough base maps but are not always the most accurate. I would recommend tracing your boundaries in google earth and importing them into your project as KML files.

You should be able to undo a delete boundary - right click in open space in the define map view.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

I found the undo function and I'll have a look at google earth.

Team Colobri,

as norwegian user - why You don't use the Kystverket charts? You can export polygons, polylines and Points (geojpg not so good).
Kystverket or Norge I Bilder is much better than GE for norway. If You have GIS application, there is a wms server address for geotiffs.

To be honest I didn't know I could draw stuff on the Kystverket-map. I'll take a look, thanks.

I use Norgeibilder today, doing the drawing in GE but I have Norgeibilder on my secondary screen to see details that are not shown in GE.

Could you explain "gis-aplication" and "wms server adress for geotifs" please? I have no idea what that is. :)

Here is a small manual from “Kystinfo" (Kystverket):

If you want to download the items you have mapped as a logged in user in use the following steps:

1. Sign in with your username and password
2. Click "Meny" - "Digitaliser" - "Digitaliserte objekt"
3. You will then find all categories of object you have mapped as a logged in user. The categories are also displayed at the bottom of the map’s table of contents (left part of the map).
4. Make sure the category you want to download is enabled / checked.
5. Use "info" button and drag a rectangle around the object(s) of interests.
6. In the field of result (in the map’s right frame) you get a hit list of objects you can download in various formats. If you want to use them in other map application, the formats GML, KML, and shape are appropriate. (KML can be used directly in Google earth).

Common gis applications are QGIS, Global Mapper and QGIS (free) .... All this most have background charts onboard. But for more informations You can add wms-server from any source (e. g. government, sience). In gis applications You can create geotiffs with high resolution for use in IMC. Look for sampe from me:

4 pictures:
1. wms add in ArcGIS
2. wms add in QGIS
3. extension open street layer with different sources
4. sample with geotiff

Best wishes

I'm testing Kystverket now. I have used this app a bit before, but just for doing recon before fishing in new areas etc. I had no idea I could draw in it, nor save and export the results of my work. This really is great info, and if I (the tecnically challenged one) could use this it would be a major upswing in the quality of my boundaries. The only negative beeing that I will have to draw up several hundred KM of boundaries again, since GE is going out the window if this works. :)

I seem to have struck a litle iceberg here though, feeling a bit like the Titanic.... It woun't let me save a drawn polygon unless I enter something in a box called "Geometri (WKT)". I have Googled it, and it appears this is well over my head. Everything I enter in the box is returned as "Ikke gyldig WKT" (= not valid WKT).

Any idea what I should enter in the box in order to save my polygon(s)? I really apreciate your help here.

It seems that only works when adding a point, like a text in the example above. Back to running for the lifeboat. :D
