I'm trying to understand the resources and assets generated and imported into ReefMaster.
I believe the sonar data points are inserted into the rmdb file and the original sonar log file
path is also kept. Will the original sonar log files ever be modified?

As often happens, I had a thought just after I posted. The lat, lon, depth values are probably
imported, but there are possibly many other resources in the sonar log file.

Anyway the question remains. My guess is that the sonar log files can be viewed and modified.

Since my plan is to use source control (git) on the workspace and asset files, I can arrange to capture
the original version of the sonar(sl2) files before import and any modifications would be later captured.

Hi Craig,
No - original sonar files are never modified in any way by ReefMaster.
ReefMaster reads the logs on import, makes a copy of depth and position in the database (.rmdb workspace file) and indexes the sonar pings in the log file. The ping indices are also stored in the db and the original file is only used to load sonar imagery for the sonar viewer and sidescan mosaic. Data points (depth and position) are taken from the db, and it is the db that is updated if these are modified (e.g. deleted, depth updated etc).

A ReefMaster workspace will work fine for creating depth maps and displaying track-points without the original sonar files available. The features that won't be available are the sonar viewer & sidescan.
