I wouldn't call it a feature as such, but that is the way it works.
Path and polygon editing in ReefMaster is rather rudimentary - it does just enough for basic use. We will probably improve this area when we get time, but I would suggest that if you need to do some serious editing of paths etc then you should do it in an application such as Google Earth, and import the finished results back into your map when you are done.
