I've been experimenting with different palettes and also using "Auto scale opacity" with my vector maps. Checking the "Write Background Raster" gives the khaki colour (Navico land?). Consequently the colours do not show very well.

By accident I left a previous "ShadedRelief" folder on my SD card. This was created from Raster mode. When I put the card in my HDS and zoomed in I had a very interesting effect.

The image explains it a bit better. The positive thing is that I no longer have the khaki colour, in areas that I have not mapped, once I zoom in.

Meggs,
I think your maps do not have shorelines, so you do not have a background fill colour that sits underneath your map vectors?
You can try adding a custom polygon in the user map, setting the level to a high value so that is sits behind all of your isobaths and then setting the colour to white, or anything else.
We might look at a configurable raster background colour - the idea at the moment is that it is just a "dummy" raster that is provided just to allow opacity to work (Lowrance units only apply opacity when a raster layer exists in the same area). We went with the default Lowrance land colour to keep it as unobtrusive as possible (normally you can't tell its there, because it just fills the area that the At5 map takes up).

Of course, any raster will do so your method of using the depth colour raster with vector isobaths on top works as well!

You are correct Matt.

I only have one "shore" around my island (my little truncated piece of Australia). I seem to be the opposite to all the tutorials I've looked at. Most everybody has a lake to play with.

What you are saying is that my sea has to be enclosed (custom polygon) before I can get away from the land colour.

I like the idea of having a configurable raster background colour. You would then be able to choose one that didn't affect your vector isobaths (using different opacity).

It doesn't have to be enclosed as such, it is just that for the typical map you have a shoreline, and there is a polygon for this in the user map that is filled white by default. This hides the dummy raster (in the map area, at least), and gives a predictable colour on which to layer your transparent isobaths. You can simulate this effect for a map with no shoreline, by simply creating a polygon and putting it behind the isobaths. So add a new custom poly, change the level to be behind isobaths (higher number) and set the fill to whatever you want. Although I think the way you have got it looks OK as well!
