Hi Matt,

Looks like I may be pushing the 64 bit version as well. I'm back to a large map and tried to construct an AT5 map yesterday. I received a few messages saying that memory was low which I cancelled and things progressed.

However some time later the PC came up with an exception message

"..unknown software exception (0xe0434356) occured in the application at location 0xfd4a940d"

I had black screens and RM shut down. I had Google Chrome and my wireless internet open at the same time. My PC is an Alienware notebook, Win 7, 64 bit, 8G RAM Intel i7 CPU.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,
Meggs

Hi Meggs,
How big is your map, and are you using a set contour grid resolution or auto?
Your machine sounds well enough specced.

One thing that does slow down map gen (and use more memory) is creating the contours for maps which have a lot of empty spaces in (areas within the map that do not have any trackpoints within the the max interpolation distance). Depednding on the nature of your map, you might find things a lot easier if you split your map generation areas into a number of smaller (relatively well populated) areas and combine contours at the end (in a user map) for export.

Feel free to send your workspace over and I'd be happy to take a look.

Thanks Matt,

Map is approximately 18 X 20 Km. I've set the contour grid resolution manually (2) and there are lots of vacant areas. I'll eventually fill in the minor "blank" areas but there will always be a large vacant area - shallow water and areas that I don't visit.

I've found that if I open RM first and start the project regenerating I may only get one out of memory message. I managed to complete the project without the PC giving up.

So I'm OK at the moment.

Very impressed with the latest iteration of RM. The RM team "rocks".

PS I'd be happy to have a "Fishing maps by Reefmaster software" sticker on the sides of my boat" M

Thanks Meggs - we have actually been thinking about boat stickers (someone did suggest it a while ago). I'll keep you posted!

I reckon you'd be far better of splitting that map into a bunch of smaller projects, especially if there is a lot of empty space. You can add the same tracks to more than one project, just draw your project areas over each sort of populated area. You can always combine them in a user map for export, and the gen times and memory usage will be much, much more manageable. RM won't complain when you try and make a map that big, but it can take a long time and there is no easy way to tell in advance if there will be enough memory - so it just tries until it fails.
The other thing I tend to do is leave contour grid resolution on auto and make a minimum on minor contours (either within a specific depth range, or not at all). This speeds things up as well, and then you can turn them on when you are ready to make a map for export..
