Can anybody explain why the Lowrance Active Imaging and Humminbird Mega+ looks so great on the actual units, but the logs when processed on ReefMaster / SonarTRX look so poor?

I would still very much like to see a clear example of the differences. If anyone is able to provide a sonar log file along with some clear screen shots from a Lowrance unit showing data from the same log file that would be very useful.

Hi Matt

Just wanted to add to this conversation. I am using a Humminbird Mega unit now for my work here in northern NZ. I would say that I am not seeing any significant loss of quality and resolution going from in the field to within Reefmaster. Having said that there are many things that lead to mosaics not ending up being picture perfect. If there is a slope this introduces big differences in signal return across the side scan and getting the boat path right to produce a clean mosaic is quite a challenge.really. Where I mainly work here almost nowhere is perfectly flat. In short, I think the tool is working but controlling the operator and environmental variables is a challenge. Just at the moment Matt I am really busy with some work that is not based on Reefmaster but in June or so I could do up some images and files with the Humminbird for you if you want that Matt .
Cheers

Hi,

I've taken the following screenshot with my Solix 12 SI G1 unit with mega SI and the second screenshot is from Sonar Viewer on the same log.

It's on my way out of the harbour so maybe not the most interesting view but I think the "ditches" are keel marks from sailboats when we had really low water levels in the lake.
You can also see the mooring poles with their shadow at the bottom of the pics.
Imho all the information that's in the Solix screen is also in the RMSV screen...

Will upload the logs and send you the link Matt.

Best regards
Johnny

PS
After I posted this I saw it said "Mega+", this is "only" Mega I'm afraid...
