Unable to locate file... sort of 12 years 11 months ago #920

I have recently been trying to go back and edit tracks already part of a project or in the global view. When opening older tracks I get an error stating that it cannot locate the file. I forget the extension and can provide a screenshot later if necessary, but it is looking for a file on my removable media.

Once I hit cancel though, it brings up the track and lets me edit it.

I have also noticed that the time it take to process Humminbird DAT files seems much longer with this update.

When you import a track from a sonar log, RM records the original location of the file. It uses the original file when replaying sonar - so ideally, the track should be on a local drive and available for use. If RM can't find the track, it shows the error window, with an option to locate the file (if it has moved) - the new location is then stored, so this window isn't shown again.
I appreciate that the error window might be quite irritating if you do not want the sonar viewing functionality, so we'll look at adding a "do not show this message again" option to that screen, so that you do not get pestered every time you open the track view. You would lose the ability to view your sonar logs though, so I would still recommend, if possible, copying the data over from your SD card to the computer hard-drive before importing into RM. This may account for the slower DAT file loading as well, as reading from SD is typically much slower than reading from your hard drive.

ps. If you do want to stop that message, and you still have the original files, the copy them over to your hard-drive and click "locate file" the next time the window pops up. Locate the file, and that should be the end of it. RM is looking for the B001.SON file in the R<NNNN> subdirectory, in the RECORD folder.

cheers,

OK thanks. Those files are long gone. I never intended to view the sonar, I just wanted to use the track to build the map. I've never stored the files locally. I typically just import them into RM then back up the rmdb file. I'm trying to map a fairly large lake so saving all the sonar recordings would take up quite a bit of room.

OK - we'll make sure a "do not ask again" option goes in to the next release.
