Certainly does look impressive.

Being able to limit the range will be useful.

Something that I would also be able to use is the ability to edit out any unwanted (interfering?) sidescan sections? By this I mean sections that overlap e.g. when doing tight turns looking for reefs or other objects of interest.

Hi Meggs,
Yep - all that is coming. There will be automatic (congfigurable) filtering on curve radius and speed (filter everything above a certain speed, when the return is usally poor). It is also very easy to split a sonar track into segments, which can then be adjusted in a number of ways; hidden or deleted, moved forwards or backwards (Z order), range adjusted etc.
Still keen to hear more ideas if you have them, it's not too late!

Here's an example of a single sonar track, split into segments:

Here's another idea that would work for me. I am using my RM generated maps in my Lowrance HDS to find new fishing areas. I cover a large area so there are quite a few gaps. I will eventually fill in the "gaps".

However, using the side scan mosaics you can get a better idea of which way a reef runs. Using your example above, it would be good to be able to draw a line (blue line) and save it as a track to put back in my HDS.

Ideally you would have a mosaic as a raster that you could view on your gps. I'm sure that's achievable but not sure it's the way I want to go. A lot of my sonar logs are poor quality (a legacy of fishing in rough seas and other factors).

I can see that using the hand drawn track in conjunction with the RM maps would help me. You could turn off your tracks when not needed.

Meggs,
It will be possible to trace features in the sidescan display, and also have the SS image shown in any user map display, where features can also be traced as polygons or lines and exported in AT5 maps or trails.
I agree - simple outlines of features is a much better way to go on unit displays, where you really want to keep things clear and easy to read.

Where will this module work? In the Pro version or module of the bottom composition?

The module will be compatible with the LITE and PRO editions of ReefMaster. There is no requirement to have the bottom composition module.

That's the current plan. We're fairly confident it should be released before the end of September.

The sidescan mosaic module is now in the later stages of Beta testing, and should be released within a couple of weeks.

Here's another example; this time, a mosaic created with 30 tracks from a dam containing a flooded town in Washington State. This data was recorded on a Humminbird 997.

A small section of the mosaic, exported as a single image at low resolution (4 pixels per metre)

The full mosaic is over a mile across, which means that at high resolutions a single image file is not practical. The sidescan mosaic module has a number of export formats that help get around this problem, including the MBTiles format and Google Earth "super overlays", which split the image in to hundreds of small tiles that are loaded as required. This means that huge mosaic images can be viewed in ReefMaster and Google Earth at full resolution. Large mosaics can also be exported directly to AT5 raster layers.

The full mosaic can be viewed by downloading this small Google Earth KML file, which contains links to the imagery hosted online. To view, download the file from the link and open in Google Earth. An internet connection is required to view the images, which have been exported at 15 pixels per metre.
