NMEA0183 has been hard to kill, and is still a feature in most versions of marine electronics. But NMEA2000 (NMEA2K) has become THE network, so perhaps it would be an idea to make sure the live mapping could be used with NMEA2000?

I for one already have a working NMEA2000-network, and this again can be connected to a laptop with an adapter. No need to make my own connectors and cables.

We haven't really looked at this at all yet, but it is definitely something we'd like to do. When we get a bit of time, I'll look into it.

One of the reasons that NMEA0183 is hard to kill is that NMEA2k is still a closed format.
The ability to decode it would come at a not insubstantial cost.

In the commercial world we still use NMEA0183 for a predominant amount of the bridge data communication between Radars/ECDIS/DSC etc, and changing at the drop of a hat is certainly not on the cards. Its going to be around for a long time to come.
